Currently: April 2018

April was a really quick month here at SuzerSpace. It seems like just a minute ago I was complaining about the weather, and then I was, uh, complaining about the weather.

This last weekend of the month has been just beautiful though. The sun is out, it isn’t hot, everything is in bloom and all of winter’s blahs are forgiven.

It was also a big month of finishing things for me.

I finished my blue crochet blanket. If you haven’t been following along, I got the great idea that doing a gigantic one square granny square afghan would be a simple way to knock out a lap blanket for the winter.

In reality, it was harder than I thought it would be. I got the pattern mixed up and had to start over. And I thought it would require less counting than a standard blanket, but that turned out to be false. But I’m super happy with it. If you want to have a go at your own, I followed this tutorial – with the exception that just kept going until I had the big, lap-size square that I wanted.

In April, at SuzerSpace I finished the 90# Lettering Challange

The second thing I finished this month was the 90# Lettering Challenge. This is a free, self paced lettering series that TwoEasels emails you each week. I kept pretty close to the 90 day schedule, and was pretty proud of myself last Thursday when I lettered my last numeral “O”.

The third thing I finished this month was the Show Me Your Drills Miniscule Workbook. The next workbook (Majuscules) starts up right away, so 26 days from now (give or take) I should be able to letter all my capital letters as well.

Currently:

Still watercoloring. I’ve done more birds and cacti, experimenting with watercolor pencils combined with markers and traditional pan paint. I think I’ve stayed with this long enough that I’m going to seek some online classes. Skillshare looks like it has a lot of good choices, and a pricing structure that looks like Netflix for crafts.

Still listening to the audiobook “Let My People Go Surfing”, by Yvon Chouinard (the founder of Patagonia). His sustainability mantra is infectious – I’ve already signed up for a TerraCycle account and am saving my contact lens trash and my LaraBar wrappers to return to their manufacturers.

Contemplating painting my front door bright yellow. Two years ago we had the house painted a nice deep gray, and I’ve been itching to do the front door really bright. I know I brought it up to Mr. SuzerSpace at the time, but he doesn’t remember it. Suddenly he noticed all the yellow door/gray house combinations in the city, and he’s up for it.
