DIY Colored Pencil holder

Roll up paper tubes to create a holder for colored pencils

Previously I posted about my love for my inexpensive colored pencils.

I’ve continued my sketching and coloring habit and I really enjoy it – every evening after I get home I sit for about 15 minutes or so and draw an “object of the day.”

Mr SuzerSpace helps out by recommending random things around the house. I think he finds my drawings entertaining (who else does he know that sketches seltzer cans, spice jars and shoes?), and I am POSITIVE he enjoys how quiet I am when I’m coloring.

The only thing I really don’t like about my setup is trying to find the right colored pencil for the finish work. I had them in an upcycled jar, and that was OK, and I cut some cardboard dividers to try and keep it organized, but it was fiddly and didn’t really work.

So of course I spent several evenings browsing Pinterest and You Tube looking for a new solution.

Lessons learned: DIY Car Window Sticker

I hope something good happens to you today window sticker

Some time ago I heard a comedian define crafting as when you see something you want, and instead of buying it, you realize, after a lot of time and just a little bit more money you could have a slightly crappier version.

For me, most of my crafting involves scraps and things destined for the trash, so the money isn’t really an issue. But definitely the time factor and slightly wonkier outcome ring true.

Case in point – last week as I was driving home I saw a big SUV with a sticker in the window that said “I hope something good happens to you today.” Great sentiment! I didn’t even bother looking it up online; I already knew I was going to make my own.

Shouldn’t take a minute, I thought, to diy a car window sticker.

Spoiler Alert: It took more than a minute.

Pinterest Challenge: Felt Jam Cookie

A tutorial from a Pinterest pin creates a felt jam cookie perfect for use as a magnet or a needle minder | SuzerSpace

Last year for awhile I participated in a blog hop that was centered around the idea that we should be actually making some of the things we pin to our Pinterest boards as opposed to just spending all our time scrolling and pinning.

I liked the concept, but posting on someone else’s schedule took some of the fun out of it for me, so I dropped out of the group. The holidays also pretty much dictated my crafting designs, but now that we are deep into the new year I’m back to revisiting my boards with an eye toward finding new projects to try.

I have a soft spot for felt, pun intended :). This pin:

looked so cute and the tutorial for the felt jam cookie was so straight forward that I had to try it. Also, Julie featured it in a roundup, so I knew it was going to be good.

Mini Piñata: A Pinterest Challenge Post

Miniature taco and martini pinatas based on a Pinterest pin from Studio DIY | SuzerSpace

Like many projects I try here on SuzerSpace, this mini piñata project has a bit of a twisty road to its start.

In the mornings, I ride a stationary bike and listen to podcasts. A few weeks back, I was listening to one about a woman who wanted miniature piñatas to give away as wedding favors, but she couldn’t find a vendor. She had her wedding without them, but the idea stuck with her, and eventually she figured out how to make them and she launched an Etsy business that let her quit her day job.

That sounded kind of neat, so I click through the show notes to her Etsy store, and sure enough, they are super cute.

And because of the way the internet works, my Pinterest feed flooded with DIY miniature piñata projects.

I don’t know if you know this, but I really like small things. Tiny cars (this is on my bucket list), tiny craft supplies, tiny crafts. Love them all. (I included a standard shot glass in the photo at the top of this post for scale.)

Birthday Banner Card: A Pinterest Challenge

Birthday banner card featuring knockout letters in flags | SuzerSpace

The purpose of the Pinterest Challenge is to inspire you to actually create something from all of those pins you’ve carefully curated (hoarded?) on to all your boards.

But this month, the challenge turned out to be trying to actually find the tutorial and it’s template from the pin.

I have seen this pin

quite a bit, and I eventually decided to pin it to my Birthday board. I am very careful to actually vet my pins by clicking through them to make sure they don’t lead to spam, dead links or just something completely useless before I save them.

This one was super tricky. A lot of the versions of this pin are just the one image, “uploaded by user” that lead exactly nowhere. Some lead to websites that feature round ups of cards, some with and some without attribution to the creator.
