Paper Firework Decoration

Get fired up about the fourth of July with a paper firework decoration made from toilet paper tubes, construction paper and ribbon | suzerspace.com

The entire month of July is a holiday at SuzerSpace.

We call it SuzerFest. Not so coincidentally, my birthday falls in the middle of the month 🙂 .

To get things off with a bang (see what I did there?) I thought I’d dress up the front door with some paper fireworks.

These are easy, and even kid friendly.

All you need is colored paper, toilet paper tubes, scissors and glue. I also used a little string and some ribbon finish it all off.

I began by making the firework sticks by rolling a sheet of construction paper on an angle, using a straw as a guide. I used a glue stick sporadically throughout the rolling to make it really firm. Don’t forget to pull the straw out before it gets completely hidden (unless you don’t mind losing it forever).

Next up, I rolled red, white and blue construction paper around toilet paper tubes. I used quick drying glue for this part, smearing it especially at the top and bottom of the tube. You’ll want to eliminate any big globs of glue as you press the sheet on for a smoother surface. If you have some little helpers, they can decorate those sheets – if crayon is the medium, it’d be easier to do the decorating before gluing. Stickers or paint can go on either before or after.

Once the paper had a chance to dry, I trimmed it to fit. This is easier than trimming it to size first and trying to roll it perfectly straight. Trust me.

For the cone, I used a can lid to trace off a circle. You’ll want a pretty big circle to start with. To shape the circle into a cone, draw a dot in the center of the circle and cut a slit to it from one edge. Then just overlap the sides until it is a pointy as you’d like, and glue the overlapped area.

I used hot glue to put the cones onto the tubes, and hot glue again to glue the sticks inside the tubes. I flattened the top part of the sticks a little to give me more gluing area.

I wanted to hang my fireworks on my front door, so I cut a small “C” shape out of a cereal box and hot glued the tubes to it. It won’t be very visible from the street, so I didn’t decorate it. I punched two holes in it between the tubes and then ran a string through those for a hanger.  To give my decoration a little sparkle, I used bright curly ribbon streamers at the ends of the tubes.

Pin this so you can make your own paper firework decorations!
