Christmas Tree Skirt

It’s the third Tuesday of the month, so welcome to the December Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen!

We moved into this house right around Christmas in 1998, and things were so chaotic we didn’t even have a tree. We strung some lights on a dying potted plant and concentrated on unpacking boxes and getting moved in, and called it good.

Our house isn’t very big, and we needed a slim tree to fit the space without overwhelming the living room. Good ones were expensive, but I kept on watching the sales and eventually found something perfect for us. And then I realized at the last minute that I didn’t have a tree skirt, so I bought this cute buffalo plaid throw with moose and bears on it, scrunched it up around the base of the tree and called that good, too.

And that has worked perfectly, for nearly 20 years, mostly because I always think about doing something more coordinated on the day we are setting up the tree, which means it doesn’t get done.

Christmas Sweater Letters Garland

This is the sixth of a series of twelve paper ornaments I’m making this year, one a month so that when December rolls around, I won’t be surprised to discover I’ve done nothing about my wish to have a fully paper crafted Christmas Tree.

I have some very nice neighbors who live behind us, and the way our yards and fences are, we can kind of see into each other’s houses, but we aren’t full on exposed. Sometimes when I’m in the back part of the kitchen where I craft, I can see them in their living room, and they are usually doing something very normal, like watching TV or fetching something from the kitchen or letting their dog out.

I wonder if they ever look across the way and see me scrunched over my craft desk (it faces the windows) sticking red letters on green paper and threading them with red and white twine, right there in the middle of June. I’m not sure that “crafting a series of paper Christmas ornaments” crosses their mind.

But sure enough, that was what I was doing. Because I decided that June’s Christmas Ornament project was going to be letters that looked like Christmas Sweaters strung into a garland.

Paper Christmas Tree Ornament

When it comes to Christmas tree lights, you are either on Team All White, or Team All The Colors. While both have their pros and cons, it’s rare you find someone who switches it up year to year.

We’ve always been Team All The Colors at SuzerSpace, and the bigger the bulb, the better.

Last Minute Holiday Greetings

So it’s the last few hours before the Christmas crafting season comes to an end, and I’m sure you have completed every project, crossed everyone off your list and are totally settled in for a nice Christmas break.

Buuuuut, just in case you are in last minute holiday mode and have a few remaining gifts to create, I’ve found a couple of neat links that create instant holiday greetings.

First off, the font giant Monotype is offering emailable greeting cards that are a typography lover’s dream – one even features a snowman built out of letters.

Next, Letterfolk has a Virtual Letterboard that lets you set up a special message and then save the image. Perfect for attaching to an email, or maybe printing out and tucking into a gift card envelope.

Finally, Canva has a section set up for creating really custom greeting cards. It’s too late to mail a last minute holiday card, but they have tons of templates and you can upload your own art to make something really special. This might be a really good link to save for after the holidays – you could make personalized Thank You cards that featured the gifts!

Mini Piñata: A Pinterest Challenge Post

Like many projects I try here on SuzerSpace, this mini piñata project has a bit of a twisty road to its start.

In the mornings, I ride a stationary bike and listen to podcasts. A few weeks back, I was listening to one about a woman who wanted miniature piñatas to give away as wedding favors, but she couldn’t find a vendor. She had her wedding without them, but the idea stuck with her, and eventually she figured out how to make them and she launched an Etsy business that let her quit her day job.

That sounded kind of neat, so I click through the show notes to her Etsy store, and sure enough, they are super cute.

And because of the way the internet works, my Pinterest feed flooded with DIY miniature piñata projects.

I don’t know if you know this, but I really like small things. Tiny cars (this is on my bucket list), tiny craft supplies, tiny crafts. Love them all. (I included a standard shot glass in the photo at the top of this post for scale.)
