Santa Hat Tree Topper

A super easy paper Santa Hat topper finished out the twelve paper ornament series for SuzerSpace

This is the final in a series of twelve paper ornaments I’m making this year, one a month so that I could complete my goal of having a Christmas Tree full of paper crafted ornaments.

Yes! It’s December, and we’re done. Twelve different paper decorations adorn my tree, and I’m so glad I took this on in January as a project. It was fun to make these all year (OK, it was a little weird in the summer, but I liked it).

I even scored a great deal on the perfect tree, so the entire project came together with weeks to spare.

I went with a super duper easy to make Santa hat to cap things off (see what I did there?).

To make these, all you need is paper, something round to trace, scissors, glue and a cotton ball.

After a little testing, I found that a soup bowl was my best size circle. After I traced it on to my paper, I lightly folded the paper into halves and halves again so I could see all the segments.

The best pointy hat was made out of a segment of the circle that contained a quarter and an eighth, which means you can make two out of every circle you cut.

Here’s a circle of paper cut into three segments. The one at the top is not going to make a hat, but the other two are.

If your paper creases easily, it might be best to make a template first and then cut the final paper from that so the marks don’t show.

Once the paper is cut, apply a little glue or double stick tape to the edge of one side, and then carefully bring the edges together so they overlap as much as you like. Pay careful attention to the bottom – that needs to line up very evenly or the hat will show a dragging hem. Anything weird at the top or back can be hidden.

A cotton ball glued to the top finishes out the Santa Hat. You could get fancy and add glitter at the bottom if you are allowed to use that at your house (not at SuzerSpace – hardwood floors and glitter are not a good mix).

Pin this for later if you need help making a super easy Santa Hat Tree topper.
