Frozen Margaritas made July bearable at SuzerSpace

The four elements that are believed to be essential to life (in Western culture) are Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

In July in the Midwest, with humidity in the 90 percent range and temperatures to match, that gets revised at SuzerSpace to be Ice, Tequila, Lime Juice and Triple Sec.

If you are keeping score at home, that’s the recipe for a frozen margarita.

While technically not a craft, creating those is fun, and drinking them in an oversize glass with a reusable straw is even more fun. It may be my imagination (or the alcohol) but I feel 10 degrees cooler with one of those in my hand.

Currently: June 2018 | activities at SuzerSpace

Just like May, June has sped right by here at SuzerSpace.

It’s become really hot, really fast, but that is how the summer rolls in Kansas City. At least we get fire flies (my very favorite bug if you are keeping score at home) and hummingbirds to keep us entertained.

To beat the heat, we generally respond by getting up earlier and then hiding in the afternoons. I whine about the heat all the time, even though the only time I’m really exposed to it is walking across the parking lot at work in the evenings.

The heat also means we don’t really start too many too many new projects, but that’s OK – I don’t mind coasting through the summer.

Mixed media mother's day card | suzerspace.com

Wow, May really went by in the blink of an eye.

It seems like just a minute ago I was in Chicago visiting family for Mother’s Day weekend, and now it’s Memorial Day Weekend.

At SuzerSpace, the Sunday before Memorial Day is actually the holiday. It’s non-stop racing, starting with the beautifully scenic Formula 1 race at Monaco (usually watched in bed with scrambled eggs, toast & champagne), followed by the self proclaimed “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” the Indianapolis 500. We get a chunk of downtime before the NASCAR version – the CocaCola 600 starts up for the evening’s entertainment.

We usually round out the weekend with planting annuals, bike rides and at least one cookout.

April was a really quick month here at SuzerSpace. It seems like just a minute ago I was complaining about the weather, and then I was, uh, complaining about the weather.

This last weekend of the month has been just beautiful though. The sun is out, it isn’t hot, everything is in bloom and all of winter’s blahs are forgiven.

It was also a big month of finishing things for me.

Paper crafting a leprechaun hat for St. Patrick's Day | SuzerSpace.com

Yay for Spring!

The daffodils are poking their leaves up through the ground – mine always come up a couple of weeks later than the neighbors. I’m particularly happy to see them this March because we had two bad floods last summer and I was worried they would have rotted away in the swampy soil in the back of the yard.
